Light Up The Woods (LUTW), is a cross community event that has been held in Cliffe Woods, Clayton West, Huddersfield, since 2016.

LUTW is a non-commercial project run by volunteers with participation from local schools, youth groups, families and churches.
Businesses may participate with displays, but no commercial activity is permitted, with the exception of teas and coffee sales by Clayton West Women’s Institute.

How is Light Up The Woods Funded?

There are costs incurred each year, and in the past there has been some support from Denby Dale Parish Council, but the greater part of funding to keep the event rolling comes from donations made on the night.  LUTW takes no share of the takings from the WI Teas and Coffees – those sales help fund WI activities.

Who Can Take Part in Light Up The Woods?

Anyone. The organisers have a mailing list of potential exhibitors they contact in advance of each event. Anyone wishing to join the list or wishing to put on a display just needs to complete a registration form.
We will contact interested parties well in advance to see if they wish to book a space.

How Does Light Up The Woods Work?

On the day of the event, exhibitors come along, find their allocated spot and set up their displays. Help is usually on hand if there is a need to suspend exhibits, or with any site issues.

The lights get switched on by the exhibitors for the start of the event, people come and wander around the woods. At the end of the event, exhibitors are asked to remove their displays.

Visitors come into the woods on foot – preferably from Cliffe Street – and wander around taking in the sights and the sounds, maybe have a tea of coffee, and go home.
